One week and counting!

After 6 months of hard work training, preparation of presentations and fund raising we are nearly ready.

As you can see we made jam, chutney until Lorraine's husband nearly left home. Julie made aprons, bags, cooking sets, and chutney. We had many contributions of Xmas cakes, table decorations and lots of scrummy cakes and food.many thanks to everybody for bringing, buying and selling. We are sitting tonight looking at the stuff we have collected together with the help of all the money that has been so kindly donated and wondering if it will fit in.
This is just the beginning of the start of Lorraine and Julie's Big Adventure watch out for the next installment. We fly out on 1st March and we will be teaching for 6 weeks.

  4. yes at last we are on line after the kindness of one of the VSO staff and a techy boy at the Orange shop.

o well done and absolutely fab news about your clinical pysch opportunity at Nottingham!!! amazing!! When do you go for your interview? you can keep me upto date now as we will go on line everyday.
We had a long day yesterday visiting a special school in Masaka and I will tell you al about that when I get home.

We have settledd into our little flat and are even calling it home!! We have two big fans on loan which makes a great difference. We have some nice neighbours and the security man knows us well and chats to us. We have settled into our roles I cook and Lorraine does the washing and ironing!
We have been travelling on a Matata which is a Toyota van and we are having a competition to see how many people you can get in so far its 16 and a baby, a wash basket and a cardboard box!!

We have met some lovely people but its a strange old world.

One of the things that fascinates me are the HUGE storks that are about the city I think they look prehistoric flying round and at night about 7 there are 3 of them that roost on the tree near our kitchen window. They sleep standing up. I think they are amazing.
We are going to update the Blog this weekend now we are on line so look out for more information.

A question for all -- if people ring us on the Orange number is it costing us ( in Uganda) a lot of money???

ok that will do for now updates will be appearing regularly now

    lots of love to everyone

Copy of last email added to keep you upto date

  5. Hi guys,
We are still not on e mail with a dongle and getting very frustrated. Communication is really difficult and we have learnt that things work eventually or not at all.Michael you need to know that we have bought an orange sim card which makes it possible to call home. Julie left the number with Brent Alpha but you can only phone us between 6.30 and 8.00 pm your time as we need to keep the phone open for Uganda calls. Please don't put any more money on Julie's phone Mike as we are on a completely different system out here. We will keep trying to get the dongle sorted even if we need to get our money back and get a different one. We are going into Kampala on Sat to sort it. Teaching is going very well and the students have given us great feedback. Working at home is problematic as we keep having power cuts but Julie knows how to work a Kerosene lamp and she has also fixed the toilet and set up a water filter. What a woman!!!!! Don't worry about the present elections in Kampala as we are not near to any of it and VSO are keeping a close eye on us. We have security guards around the huosing estate so we feel very safe and they have got to know us.We have loads to tell you but we are on an internet site at the moment on lunch break and we need to get back to lectures. PLEASE! share this info with everyone , kids, grandmas etc
We love you both very much and miss you but having a great time,
    Love to everybody,
    Julie and Lorraine XXXXXXXX

Out of sequence but to keep you upto date
